In 2023, I had the profound honor of traveling alongside my beloved Charles, affectionately known as “Cain.” This journey allowed me to witness firsthand the life and challenges faced by OTR truck drivers. Throughout our travels, we met countless drivers who expressed a recurring, heartbreaking fear: dying alone on the road. Tragically, this fear became a reality when Cain, despite experiencing troubling symptoms, felt compelled to keep driving. Our final conversation on December 14, 2023, was filled with love and hope, yet it became our last “I love you” before he passed away unexpectedly shortly after.
Cain’s sudden passing was a devastating loss, not only for me but also for his adoring family and friends, who cherished and loved him deeply. His absence left a significant void, underscoring the emotional toll of this profession. This tragedy illuminated the urgent need for accessible health monitoring tools for truck drivers—dedicated professionals who, burdened by demanding schedules, often delay or ignore serious health issues.
